Bun 1.0 is out of the oven! And it’s a big deal, because there wasn’t much happening in terms of performance or innovation in the recent years with NodeJS. Sure we have Deno, but who is really using Deno? Also Bun tries to combine various tools into one tool, helping out the developers a lot.

I would like to share a nice ‘secret’. I want to introduce you to the Starship prompt! This is a getting started guide for Starship. I’m using Starship every day.

Starship Prompt, not to be confused with the Starship from SpaceX 😆, is a cross-shell prompt written in Rust. The prompt works in any common shell you may already use under GNU/Linux, like Bash.

GitLab is an awesome product. I’m using GitLab Community Edition (FOSS) at home on a daily basis.

However, I needed a specific feature in GitLab called Pull from a remote repository which is officially a premium feature only. Too bad this feature is not free, but I have a solution.
This sync feature allows you to keep for example your forked repository in sync with a remote upstream repository.

I got a running GitLab server on my Debian Jessie server. GitLab Community Edition is an open-source git repository manager, but also supports code reviews, wiki’s, issue tracking and much more! GitLab is very similar to Github in a way, however you have full control of the server. You are running your own git server.

Normally Github will do all the system administration, upgrades and such for you. They make sure your code is safe and saved no matter what. Since I use GitLab, I need to take care of my own server. What you definitively not want is; to lose all your precious data!

Recently I found the benefits of using git hooks. I want you explain in this article more about git hooks. What are git hooks in the first place? What for hooks are there? (no I’m not talking about a fish hook). And how to use git hooks in combination in my favorite open-source git server: GitLab.

Git hooks

I was searching for a good and free TLS certificate which is signed by a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). A CA is an organization for issuing digital certificates. You need to have a Certificate Authority when you want to use HTTPS, secure HTTP web server connections. You know; when you visit a secure web-page (https://) and you will see a green lock-icon in your web-browser. This icon indicates that you have an encrypted connection with this website.

SSH (Secure-shell) wordt gebruikt om remote in te loggen in een server of computer. Maar wist je dat je nog veel meer met SSH kunt doen? Naast remote inloggen, bied SSH ook ondersteuning voor het doorsturen van TCP poorten (tunnel), X11 verbindingen om je beeld door te sturen en tot slot bestandsoverdracht (wat via SFTP of SCP gaat).
We houden het in dit artikel bij het doorsturen van poorten, ook wel SSH tunneling genoemd.

Het belang van GNU/Linux

Het begrip “4K” komt regelmatig ter sprake de laatste tijd. En voornamelijk sinds de gadgetbeurs CES die plaatsvond in januari 2014. CES 2014 stond in het teken van 4K TV"s, mobiele besturingssystemen (Android, WebOs, Firefox OS), draagbare gadgets (smartwatches), Steam/SteamBox en veel meer.

Ik kan mij nooit op alle onderwerpen richten in één artikel. Ik ga mij daarom enkel richten op “4K” in dit blog artikel.

Veel mensen denken nog steeds dat video en/of geluid bewerking onmogelijk te doen valt onder Linux. Videobewerkingssoftware

Onder Linux is Lightworks het professioneelste videobewerkingsprogramma onder Linux momenteel beschikbaar. Het programma werd onder meer ingezet voor film Mission Impossible en Batman. Lightworks ziet er goed uit, relatief makkelijk te bedienen, maar heeft hoe dan ook een leercurve net als bijvoorbeeld Adobe Premiere Pro. Gelukkig hebben ze daarvoor goede tutorials geschreven (zie later).

Er bestaat verschillende web tools op het internet, die het mogelijk maakt om het internetverkeer van en naar je website te kunnen achterhalen. Zoals hoeveel bezoekers je website heeft en waar deze vandaan komen.
Dit artikel is niet alleen interessant voor website ontwikkelaars, maar ook mensen die geïnteresseerd zijn in wat de website eigenaar voor data kan achterhalen, zodra jij een website bezoekt.

Ik kreeg onlangs de vraag of ik enkele handige commando’s wist voor op Ubuntu. Voor de mensen die niet weten wat Ubuntu is, dat is een besturingssysteem net als Windows of Mac OS X, maar deze is gebaseerd op GNU/Linux genaamd “Ubuntu Linux” Deze zogenaamde distributie is gratis te downloaden en te gebruiken. Goed alternatief voor Ubuntu is Linux Mint, ook tevens gratis te gebruiken.

De laatste tijd hoor ik veel verschillende mensen die graag Windows opnieuw willen installeren op hun computer / laptop. Helaas is de kennis vaak te beperkt om Windows opnieuw te kunnen installeren, tot vandaag tenminste 😉 Als je deze handleiding stap-voor-stap volgt kun je het voortaan gewoon zelf.
